CorelDraw 101: Import and Export

Export CDR File

Why CDR?
CDR is the CorelDraw extension and is a perfect method for saving images to be used in CorelDraw documents. It is like saving a CorelDraw file, and can be opened. In fact, to export a CDR file, you use the Save As option.

Export File Basics
Select the items you wish to export with the Pick Tool. Choose File, Save As from the Main menu. Select CDR as the File Type. Choose the name and location for your file. Choose Selected only. (See Export a File in this series for more information on these actions.)

Choose Version
You can save your graphic for an earlier version of CoreDraw. Note: Some properties may be lost if you have used features that were not available in earlier versions.

Choose Thumbnail Size
The thumbnail drop-down selector determines the quality of the preview image included with the file. For the best quality, choose the default of 10K (color). You can also have color display with a 5K (color) and the file size is slightly smaller. Or choose 1K (mono) for a black and white preview or none to have no preview available. The difference in file size is not significant unless you have hundreds of files to export. None of the settings affect the actual file quality.
