Embedding Sound with Flash, Part IV: Native JavaScript
A Final Word
In this column we continued our series on embedding sound with Flash. We presented the FlashSound JavaScript API in Column 81, Embedding Sound with Flash, Part I: The Basics, Column 82, Embedding Sound with Flash, Part II: Playing Variations, and Column 83, Embedding Sound with Flash, Part III: Streams. In this column, we went back to the basics and showed you how to support Flash with native JavaScript. Once you know how to initialize the process, you'll benefit from more methods and properties than are and will be provided by APIs. We showed you how to check the browser and the player compatibility, and how to verify that indeed the right version of the player is installed. We taught you how to embed SWFs in an invisible frame, and how to share these objects among a Web site's pages.
In this column you have learned:
- How to check the browser compatibility
- How to check the Flash player
- How to embed a SWF
- How to use a Flash method
- How to use an invisible frame
- How to share sound tracks among Web pages
You could download the Flash Player, the Flash Embedding JavaScript include file, and the animalsounds SWF example. You could also find these files in one zipped file.
