In this column, we showed you different ways to display information from JScript .NET. We first showed you how to use print(), System.Console, and System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox from command-line compiled and linked JScript .NET code. Trying to use these methods in ASP.NET pages or Code Behind JScript .NET will yield a compiler error. We then covered different ways to display information from ASP.NET pages. We emphasized the role of the <% %> construct to contain executable JScript .NET code. You can put variable names (prefix them with an equal sign) or function calls inside this construct. Functions should return their values with Response.Write(). You can also return scripts with Response.Write(). These scripts run at the client side, and we showed you how to pop up a window at the client browser with such a script.
