Tutorial 27: The Care and Feeding of Hyperlinks, Part III

Summary

In this tutorial, you learned how to determine which links you should provide for navigation. We saw that it's always best to start by looking at link types and seeing which of these apply to your page, then using them in the head of the document, and finally replicating them in the document body. Navigation links should ideally be placed at the top and bottom of a document, and are one of the very few cases where use of an HTML table for layout is a good idea. Breadcrumbs can be used to give a depth-wise look at your site's structure, while section links offer a breadth-wise look at adjacent sections. A combination of all of the above can help your site get that elusive "stickyness" you've no doubt heard so much about. Your users will find more of your site faster and stay interested in what you offer longer.
