Step 3- Set the White Point

Once the black point has established the darkest point in the image, it's time to set the white point for the lightest point in the image. In this way, you can ensure the widest possible tonal range in your image, which translates into strong contrast and good definition.

To set the white point, open the image in Photoshop and select Image>Adjust>Curves. In the dialog that appears, click on the white point Eyedropper, which is the white tipped eyedropper icon just below the Auto button. Now move your cursor into the image, looking for the lightest pixel value you can find. As mentioned in the previous step, it helps to have the info palette open and visible so that you can monitor pixel values exactly.

Click on the lightest pixel to brighten the image. Its important to note that when you set the white point, every pixel value that is above the selected pixel will also reduce to pure white. You can see how the image lightens considerable from the previous step.
