Hiermenus Go Forth*, III:
Version 4 - The External Arrays - Menu and Item Parameters
| IMPORTANT NOTE: This column is the third in a multi-column discussion of a new version of the hierarchical menu script. Until our discussion is complete, the current version of the script will still be the latest maintenance release of Version 3: 3.10.3. Read this column, and future columns, to learn how we built the menu script. Use the most recent version of the script, always available in HierMenus Central. |
In this column we continue our discussion of the Version 4 menu-creating arrays.
Recall that in Column 35 and Column 36, we introduced the new Version 4 structure of the menu arrays and discussed the Tree-Specific Overhead Parameters. That is, the array elements that serve as parameters affecting the look and behavior of a specific menu tree. These parameters are all declared in the top-level menu arrays.
This time, we will look at
The structure of child menu arrays, and
The Item-Specific Parameters, which affect the look and behavior of menu items and exist in both top-level and child menu arrays.
We will learn how to expand the HM functionality beyond just Hierarchical Menus to include:
- labeled menus
- pop-up tooltips
- description boxes
- and much more
First, let's look at the structure of the arrays that create child menus.
