The a element

Both Netscape and Explorer support the basic functionality of the a element, as an anchor and as a link. However, most of the attributes remain unsupported by both browsers. hreflang, type, charset, rel and rev are unsupported by both browsers. The only useful attribute left is title. Both browsers display the value of the title attribute as a tooltip. In addition, Explorer also uses it to give the link a name when the user adds it to their favorites list. This is very useful when referring to documents without specifying their full title.

The link element

Sadly, the link element remains largely unimplemented, mostly because there was never a concerted effort to define standard link types before the HTML 4.01 specification. In fact, the only link type the major browsers support is rel=stylesheet, which indicates a stylesheet. Netscape also supports rel=fontdef which indicates a font definition file if you want to use Netscape's Dynamic Fonts. The two browsers only support the type attribute as a means of defining the stylesheet language used. Explorer also supports the media attribute, though the only effect it has is making Explorer ignore stylesheets linked with media=print.
