ebXML: Global Standard for Electronic Business?

Lisa J. Carnahan, of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and past chair of the OASIS Registry Technical Commitee, points out:

"It is true that a UDDI registry can be used to find ebXML services (once they exist). However the initial model posed by the OASIS Registry/Repository Technical Commitee is that ebXML services will be found via an ebXML Registry and ebXML Registries may be registered in a UDDI registry (at the discretion of the individual registry owner)."

Indeed the model foreseen by the TC is to store ebXML registries with UDDI, and not the individual services as such. An ebXML registry contains much more information and related query facilities than what is the scope of UDDI. Details can be found in the OASIS Registry TC spec.

Thank you Lisa for improving the quality and accuracy of my column.
