CSS Repository? - WebReference Update - 020307

This week we continue our thread on CSS layout repositories. In other news MIT ponders blogs, Macromedia promotes Flash MX, and Herman Miller hires an Information Architect. Amazon and BN.com have settled, the Web's shine is wearing off, yet only 8% of the world's population has access.

MacTV talks to Karen Gauthier, Adobe's Sr. Product Manager for Photoshop 7, due out in April. Highlights include a "healing" brush that removes unsightly wrinkles, configurable brushes, OS X support, and a number of other tweaks.

Turns out your humble editor made a slight misstatement in yesterday's JavaScript.com News about our new JavaScript Charting tutorial. It does indeed work with dynamic charting, it just doesn't work in Mac IE for *interactive* forms. The author is investigating a solution. More next time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. FEATURE: CSS Repository?
Thanks for all your responses to my CSS layouts question last time. If you'll recall we reported on the Open Source Web Design site as a great place to snag some free layouts, mainly using tables:
https://www.oswd.org
I wondered if there was an equivalent site for CSS layouts. Folks e-mailed in a few links, some highlights:
https://www.zeldman.com/daily/faq.html#csslayout https://www.bluerobot.com/web/layouts/ https://www.glish.com/css/
These are close, but I still haven't seen what I envisioned. A site similar to OSWD (or a CSS section on OSWD) that rates open source CSS layouts and styles. Ideally this source of CSS layouts would be vetted by CSS experts, only accept valid CSS/(X)HTML, and provide hack-free 1, 2, and 3-column layouts. Hundreds of layouts wouldn't be necessary.
Designers could browse CSS layouts and choose the one they like. The adoption rate of web standards would increase. Jeffrey Zeldman found another site that lists 500 CSS layout sites, Web Nouveau.
https://webnouveau.net/
I noticed that the domain CSSLayouts.com is available at press time, perhaps someone with more time on their hands will take up the torch. Let me know if you find more CSS layout sources, and I'll update this story.
