Quiotix Ships Embedded WebServer

April 20, 1997 - Quiotix, based in Menlo Park, California, announced that it is now shipping the Quiotix Embedded WebServer (QEWS). QEWS is a software package that allows developers of networking products to use popular World-Wide-Web (WWW) technologies to provide user interfaces for their products. Users and administrators can use any available web browser to access QEWS-enabled products, replacing proprietary client software. QEWS is available for all environments supporting TCP/IP connectivity, including desktop and server operating systems, embedded operating systems, and proprietary embedded kernels.

Specially designed for embedding, QEWS is ideal for network devices such as routers, switches, modems, and printers. QEWS can also be incorporated into software server products, eliminating the need for a separate web server. QEWS is based on proven portability technology developed by Quiotix for its highly successful Embedded AppleTalk-compatible protocols, offering an unmatched level of stability, performance, and flexibility.

QEWS is a full-featured web server including support for image maps, forms, authentication, etc. In order to minimize development time for web content, QEWS applications can be developed and run standalone on desktop computers. Once development is complete, the entire application, including web pages, can be automatically rehosted to the embedded environment without modification. For environments without a file system, QEWS includes a minimal special-purpose file system that stores web pages and other resources.

Because it is designed for embedding in a wide range of environments, QEWS resource requirements are significantly smaller than those of traditional web servers, or even embedded web servers based on traditional web server technology. Quiotix's exclusive AutoSubset feature automatically configures QEWS so that only features actually required by an application are present in the target environment.

The standard distribution includes system-dependent modules for Microsoft Windows, Solaris, DEC Unix, and popular embedded operating systems such as VxWorks, pSOS, and Lynx. Introductory pricing (domestic) for development licenses is $2,000 per developer for all systems.

Since 1992, Quiotix has brought a fresh perspective to the embedded marketplace. As a solutions company, Quiotix is uniquely positioned to assist customers in the development and delivery of sophisticated computer and networking equipment.
