Inside Camtasia Studio 5: Part 3

This brings up the Production Presets Wizard dialog box. Make sure that the Flash SWF/FLV option is enabled and click Next at the bottom of the dialog box.

In the next stage of this dialog box, click on the Flash Options button.

In the Flash Options dialog box, click on the Controls tab. Under the End Actions section, enable Jump to URL and type in theURL of your choice. Click OK to finish. Now, when you produce your video, it will automatically jump to the Web site once the video has finished playing. If you're distributing your videos, you can link to a sales or order page, as an example.

Adding Callouts

To add a Callout to your video, click on the Callout heading under the Edit section of the Task List. This brings up the following area, which gives you several options for adding and edting Callouts.

Clicking on the Add Callout link bring up the Callout Properties dialog box.

It also adds a callout to the preview pane of your video so you can see what the callout will look like when the video is produced. In the screen shot above you'll notice the green box around the callout as well as the black squares at strategic points (eight in all). These are for resizing the callout as necessary. In the Callout Properties dialog box you have a wide variety of options that you can add, such as text, fill color, border color, drop shadow and more. One of the new features is the 3D edge, which helps give depth to the callout.

Here's an example of the 3D edge with some text, a fill and a border. Other options include fade in/out, size callout to the text, keep aspect ratio and more. You can choose from a wide variety of shapes and if you don't like the result you can go back into the Callouts dialog box and adjust the settings until you're satisfied.

New Transitions

In this section we'll look at some of the new transitions. Before we begin, I've loaded a simple project with some painting images from one of my sites. Each image is set at the default of 5 seconds and has been dragged onto the timeline as in the screen shot above.

To access transitions, click on the Transitions heading under the Edit section of the Task List. This brings up the Transitions dialog box. Here, a couple of the new transitions are Fade through black and Cube Rotate. To apply them, simply click on the transition of your choice and drag it on top of the arrows that you see between images. Once you're done you can play back the video and see how the transitions work.

If at any time you decide that you want to only use one transition for all frames, click on the transition you want to use, right-click with your mouse button and in the popup menu, choose Insert transition between all clips and you're done.

This week we had a look at clips, stability improvements, changes in frames per second (fps) for better editing, editing procedures, working with callouts and new transition options. Next time we're going to learn about creating title clips, voice narration, Flash quizzing, surveys and how to use captioning.
